Sem Rikpa psychology
A Buddhist therapeutic approach that links mental and emotional disorders to a disturbance of the breath (Lung), caused by the three poisons of the mind: attachment, aversion and ignorance.
Sem Rikpa psychology belongs to the tradition of the medicine of the soul and of Sowa Rigpa, “the science of healing”. It sees the mind not as an isolated entity, but as intimately bound to the breath and the subtle energy (Lung) that circulates within the body. In this view, psychic balance and energetic balance are inseparable.
Within this approach, mental and emotional disorders - anxiety, sadness, anger, rumination - are understood as the sign of a disturbance of the Lung, itself caused by the three poisons of the mind: attachment, aversion and ignorance. To soothe the mind is therefore to restore the right circulation of the breath.
Therapeutic virtues
By working at once on the breath, the emotions and self-knowledge, Sem Rikpa psychology offers concrete keys to move through the emotionally difficult situations that are part of the cycle of life. This work aims to:
- Identify and calm the movements of the Lung behind mental agitation and overwhelming emotions;
- Recognise the action of the three poisons - attachment, aversion, ignorance - and loosen their grip on the mind;
- Recover clarity, stability and inner peace by reharmonising body, breath and mind.
What you will discover in the training
The Sem Rikpa psychology training passes on the foundations of this approach rooted in the medicine of the soul, around these key teachings:
- The foundations of Sem Rikpa: the link between the mind, the breath (Lung) and the emotions;
- Understanding the three poisons of the mind and their role in mental and emotional imbalances;
- The practices of soothing and rebalancing the breath to accompany difficult emotional states and cultivate inner peace.
